HB Tunnelling Doncaster: Rapid End-to-End Blasting and Intumescent Painting

This Doncaster warehouse refurbishment was delivered on a £150,000 contract over a six-week programme by a five-person multi-skilled team.

The client requirement: one-stop delivery for the warehouse steelwork

HB Tunnelling required the newly acquired warehouse to be shot blasted, fireproof painted and readied for the wider roof refurbishment before it could be brought into operation. The steelwork had to be primed immediately after blasting to prevent surface contamination or deterioration that could compromise coating adhesion.

What we delivered: carefully planned same-day stages

Our five-person multi-skilled team carried out abrasive blasting and applied the fire-protective primer in carefully planned stages, completing each section within a single day. The team then applied the intumescent fire-protective paint as part of the same coordinated delivery.

Abrasive blasting from elevated access

The team worked from elevated access equipment to abrasive blast the existing steelwork, removing corrosion and old coatings and preparing the surface for its protective paint system.

Primer applied immediately after blasting

As each area was prepared, primer was applied straight after abrasive blasting to prevent surface contamination or deterioration before the fire-protection stage. This same-day sequence kept freshly prepared steel protected.

Continuous progress through to intumescent fire protection

Keeping surface preparation, primer and intumescent fire-protective painting under one five-person team maintained continuous progress, minimised downtime and helped ensure the warehouse was completed to the client requirements and on schedule.
