Marine CX Surface Preparation for Commercial Steelwork
Large-scale commercial blasting for steelwork and enclosures entering a Marine CX coating package
CX identifies an extreme atmospheric corrosivity environment. Marine CX protection starts with the steel, not simply a thicker coat of paint: the project coating specification sets the coating system, coat sequence, total dry-film build, controlled anchor profile and handover requirements.
Our Process
1. Review the coating requirements
We review the available coating specification, product data, asset details, access and the next stage of the programme with the project team.
2. Plan the working area
Access, containment, protection of adjacent work, handling and the blasting-to-coating sequence are planned around the commercial package.
3. Prepare the steel to the agreed requirement
Abrasive blasting removes corrosion and contamination and creates the controlled microscopic anchor profile required for the primer to grip.
4. Check and hand over
The agreed preparation checks and records are completed before the steel moves into the next coating stage.
Applications
Large commercial enclosures
Fabricated steelwork entering a specified CX coating package
Marine, waterside and high-salinity site assets
Commercial refurbishments and new-build coating packages
What we need to line up for Marine CX blasting
On a sizeable enclosure or steelwork package, getting the blast work, handling and coating handover right early keeps the rest of the project moving.
Why isn’t Marine CX just a case of more paint?
Marine CX is an extreme corrosivity environment. The coating system, number of coats and film build all come from the project specification and product data—not a one-size-fits-all rule. We prepare the steel for the system your project calls for.
What should we send for a large enclosure blasting package?
Send the drawings, photos, dimensions, site access details and the coating information you have. We will talk through containment, handling, the working area and the handover to coating so the blast work fits the rest of the job.
CX is used for an extreme corrosive environment. The specified coating system, preparation and handover controls are selected for that environment and the asset maintenance plan.
Does Marine CX mean applying really thick paint?
No. A coating package may have several layers and a defined total dry-film build, but the exact system and measurements are set by the project coating specification and current product data.
Should the steel be smooth before primer?
No. The steel is not polished smooth. The specification sets the required cleanliness and controlled anchor profile so the primer can adhere correctly.
